The WaterShave tradition continued at NamesCon 2016!
Five WaterSchool friends and domain name industry legends went bald for clean water at WaterNight on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Did you know that dirty water and poor sanitation kill as many kids every year as a jumbo jet going down every 4 hours? Yes, it's scary and it's true. But these folks did something about it! They shaved their luscious locks for WaterSchool.
Pledge your support and follow these WaterSchool heroes today. Just $66 will bring clean water to an entire family - for life! If you can do a little more $495 will bring clean water to 15 families. Let's make an impact together!

Derek Newman
Derek is a lawyer representing domain-name interests. In his almost-20 years serving our industry, Derek has advised registries and registrars in policy development, negotiated contracts with ICANN, and won federal cybersquatting lawsuits for both domainers and brand owners. Recently, Derek won a large false-advertising case for XYZ against Verisign in Virginia, and favorably settled a dispute among domain escrow companies in Los Angeles. Derek usually wears a crisp suit and anally styles his hair to match. That all came to an end on WaterNight. Derek’s client, Gregg McNair, shaved Derek bald!

Omar is in Registry Business Development with our friends at Uniregistry. Hailing from the perpetually sunny town of Newport Beach, CA, Omar is excited to be at NamesCon - particularly to meet all you domainers out there. With a high priority on giving back to his community, Omar’s best memory is when he and his cousins worked to renovate an orphanage in India that their grandfather started. To him, it doesn’t matter if people need help in the USA, India or Uganda - we all need to do what we can to help. Thank you for supporting Omar’s vision to bring clean water to hundreds of families through WaterSchool when he shaved his head at WaterNight!

WaterShave at the second annual NamesCon conference in January 2015
The shave didn't lose steam at the 2nd annual NamesCon conference in January 2015. At WaterNight, between pledges at the door, and pledges made specifically for the WaterShave inside, over $46k was committed to by the NamesCon attendees! With dollar for dollar matching by BOTH namecheap and NamesCon, that transformed into over $138,000 in donations raised by the industry for clean water projects.
Prior to entry to the party, attendees were given cards on which they could pledge a specific amount of money to the Water School. In addition, donations were solicited prior to the “watershave.” Participating in the water this year were Kellie Peterson and Mike Robertson of Directnic and Kevin Kopas of Radix. It’s great to see people in the domain industry supporting an organization like WaterSchool, and kudos to Namecheap and NamesCon organizers for increasing the amount of money raised!

WaterShave continued in 2014 with three more
industry names going bald for clean water
The shave took place during the networking, mingling and giving back at WaterNight during NamesCon, on January 14th, 2014 in Las Vegas. Yancy Naughton and Jothan Frakes volunteered to shave their heads in order to raise money for WaterSchool. The pair managed to raise $15,000 in donations and was generously matched, dollar for dollar, by NameCheap, bringing the grand total to $30,000 for WaterSchool. But, that wasn’t all as many other attendees got into the giving spirit, with NamesCon and Hexonet offering up donations, as well as a $25,000 gift from Colin Yu. After all of this excitement, NameCheap decided to raise the stakes and challenge Joe Alagna of 101Domain to step forward and go bald for a whopping $20,000, to which Joe happily obliged. When all was said and done, WaterNight ended up raising a staggering $111,000 for WaterSchool, an accomplishment that is as impressive as it is heartwarming.

Yancy Naughton has been in multi-channel advertising for over 20 years. He participated in the successful launches of two Direct Navigation traffic platforms, Elephant Traffic and ZeroPark. During these tenures he saw the viability of applying the bidding model to multiple channels of traffic as a vehicle for optimization, and was inspired to launch HasTraffic.com and WantsTraffic.com as true Multi Channel Traffic Platforms.
Jothan Frakes is a 20 year veteran within the domain name industry and long time participant in ICANN. He serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for evaluation of registry services and registrar systems, and has held senior leadership roles within the domain name industry. Jothan works with gTLD, ccTLD, registrars, and Fortune 500 clients to provide long term business value in their domain name distribution strategies.
Joe Algna is the Head of Channel Development at 101Domain. He is well-known as the former General Manager of North American Markets for CentralNic, a London based domain name registry, which he left in February, 2013. Joe was influential in establishing CentralNic as the largest sub-domain registry in the world, and was responsible for creating their specialized division, Personal Net Names, a division that allowed domainers to quickly offer their own sub-domains to the general market and subsequently became their TLD registry product.
